Air Freight Route between Zhengzhou and Mexico Opens

An all-cargo plane of Mas (Mexican cargo airline Mas Air) completed its maiden flight from Mexico to Zhengzhou on May 28, marking the successful launch of Zhengzhou's first air freight route to Mexico.

The Zhengzhou-Mexico air freight service currently offers 3 trips per week, which will increase to 7 in the future. The launch of such a route will expand Zhengzhou cargo network and further enhance the role of Zhengzhou as an international air freight hub.

Santiago Toledo, Commercial Counselor of the Mexican Embassy in China, attended the launch ceremony in Zhengzhou. Jesús Seade, Mexican Ambassador to China, delivered remarked via video link that 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mexico and China, and trade between two countries will be further enhanced through Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport and Mexico International Airport. After the launch ceremony, the plane carrying dozens of tons of auto parts, clothes, daily necessities, electronic components and e-commerce goods departed Zhengzhou for Mexico.

In recent years, Henan Airport Group has deeply integrated into the construction of the "Air Silk Road" and made every effort to promote the high-quality development of Zhengzhou international air cargo hub. In 2021, Zhengzhou airport totally completed over 700 thousand tons of cargo throughput, ranking 6th place in China for 2 consecutive years. From January to April, 2022, its cargo throughput totaled 220 thousand tons, of which 190 thousand tons were contributed by international markets with a year-on-year increase of 15 percent.

Now, there are 29 all-cargo airlines running at Zhengzhou airport (24 international ones) with 42 all-cargo air routes (35 international ones) and 49 destinations (41 international ones), covering 17 countries under the Belt and Road Initiative. Among the world's top 50 cargo airports, 28 have been covered. So far, a Y-shaped international air freight network spanning the three economic zones of Europe, America and Asia, covering the world's major economies and supported by multiple destinations around the world has been formed, serving as the main channel for Central China to open up to the outside world.
