State Grid Henan Electric Power Supply Company has recently put into operation its first 126kV outdoor electrical equipment at the 110kV Luozhuang transformer substation in Luanchuan County of Luoyang, central China's Henan Province.

The equipment, which consists of a 126kV vacuum circuit breaker and a current transformer, uses clean air instead of sulfur hexafluoride as the insulator.

While sulfur hexafluoride is considered as a potent greenhouse gas, the use of clean air helps reduce its impact over environment and simplify the maintenance of the equipment.

Over the past years, the State Grid has increased its research in reducing greenhouse gas emissions of high-voltage power equipment and put into operation a number of trials across the country, striving to achieve zero growth in total use of sulfur hexafluoride before 2028.
