甲骨文“象”字，字形整体看起来是大象的形状，有长长的象鼻，巨大的象牙，强健的身体。本意是大象，在后来的词义引申中有形象之意，后又引申出相貌、肖像，相似、好像之意。
The oracle bone script form of "象(xiàng)" resembles an elephant, with itslong trunk, large tusks, and robust body. Its original meaning is "elephant". Overtime, its meaning extended to include "image" and further expanded to encompass "appearance", "portrait", "similarity", and "resemblance".
