The oracle bone script form of the character "龟"(guī) is a pictograph. It has two primary forms. Its shape resembles a turtle viewed either from the side or the front, complete with a head, legs, shell, and tail, with the carapace being especially prominent. In oracle bone inscriptions, it is used in three ways: to represent a turtle, to represent divination with a turtle, and as a person's name.
