In recent days, a video of Vietnamese children singing "You Love Me, I Love You, Mixue Ice Cream & Tea" has gone viral on social media, offering a lively snapshot of how Henan-based companies are expanding their presence in Southeast Asia.

近几日,一段越南小朋友唱着“你爱我,我爱你,蜜雪冰城甜蜜蜜”的视频在社交媒体广为传播,成为豫企深耕东南亚市场的鲜活写照。

 

"ASEAN is Henan's largest trading partner. From a cup of milk tea to a single jujube, one can see the close economic ties, cultural affinity, and people-to-people connections between Henan and ASEAN countries," said Song Xiangqing, Vice President of the Commerce Economy Association of China, on April 18.

“东盟是河南第一大贸易伙伴。一杯奶茶、一颗红枣里就可以看出河南与东盟各国经贸密切、人文相亲、民心相通。”4月18日,中国商业经济学会副会长宋向清深有感触地说。


In Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia where the Mekong and Tonlé Sap rivers converge, a wave of "sweet" consumption is sweeping through the city. On their birthdays, young people book Mixue stores to celebrate with friends over ice cream and milk tea—Mixue has become a trendy new "social currency" among Southeast Asia's youth.

美丽的湄公河、洞里萨河的交汇处,是柬埔寨王国的首都金边。在传统建筑和现代化大厦和谐共存的城市生活中,一股“甜蜜蜜”的消费热潮持续涌动。生日当天,包下一个门店,邀请好友吃冰淇淋、喝奶茶……蜜雪冰城成为东南亚年轻人的新型“社交货币”。


Just how popular is this milk tea? During a recent trip to Cambodia, Xu Bin, a tourist from Zhengzhou, spotted Mixue shops along the streets of Phnom Penh and couldn't resist posting on WeChat: "Zhengzhou brands are making waves overseas!"

这杯奶茶有多火?前不久到柬埔寨旅游的郑州人徐斌,看到金边街头的蜜雪冰城门店,不由得发朋友圈感叹,“郑州品牌出圈到了海外”。


At the recent Ancestor Worship Ceremony, our reporter met Dato' Sri Hong Laixi, a fourth-generation Chinese Malaysian. "The 'Snow King' mascot is everywhere in Malaysia," he said excitedly. "Customers line up outside the shops—it's incredibly popular."

今年拜祖大典现场,记者见到了马来西亚拿督斯里、第四代华裔洪来喜。他说,马来西亚到处可看到“雪王”形象,顾客在门店口排队购买,很受欢迎。


Ji Hongtao, Vice President of the Zhengzhou Tourism Association, visited Cambodia this March and was deeply impressed. "Young people there are falling in love with Chinese-style tea drinks. Besides Mixue stores, elements like Chinese kung fu and Huimian noodles are frequently seen and heard on the streets," he noted. Ji, along with Zhu Jiajun, President of the Zhengzhou Young Entrepreneurs Association, met with officials from Cambodia's Ministry of Tourism, suggesting measures to strengthen bilateral ties—such as improving customs clearance efficiency and increasing the presence of Chinese signage in airports, hotels, scenic areas, and public transport.

今年3月到柬埔寨考察的郑州市旅游协会副会长姬红涛也感触深刻,年轻人爱上中式茶饮,街头不仅有蜜雪冰城门店,“中国功夫、烩面”等中国特色文化和美食,成为双方交流中的高频词。近两年,柬埔寨公共场合的中文标识逐渐增多,他和郑州市青年企业家商会会长朱加军,与柬埔寨旅游部有关人士会谈时建议,一方面加快柬埔寨通关效率;另一方面建议在机场、酒店、景区、公共交通等领域增加中文标识,为两地友好关系长远发展注入活力。

 

On social media, a video blogger known as "Small Potato Sauce" shared their thoughts while filming in Cambodia, noting that unlike many brands that raise prices after going international, Zhengzhou brands like Mixue have kept their prices nearly the same as back home. According to the "Southeast Asia Insight" blog, Mixue's first store in Cambodia opened in Phnom Penh on June 23, 2023, with product prices ranging from 4,000 to 6,500 Cambodian riel—roughly USD 1 to 1.5.

社交媒体上,一位名叫“小土豆酱”的视频博主在柬埔寨边拍视频边感慨,其他饮品把门店开到海外,价格普遍上涨,而郑州品牌出海后,几乎与国内同价。来自“东南亚洞察”的博主介绍,2023年6月23日,柬埔寨首家蜜雪冰城门店在金边开业,产品价格均在4000至6500元柬埔寨瑞尔,也就是1至1.5美元。

 

A cup of milk tea is sweetening the world. As one of Zhengzhou's highest-valued listed companies, Mixue Ice Cream & Tea began its international journey as early as 2018, with its first overseas store opening in Vietnam. By the end of last year, Mixue had more than 46,000 stores worldwide—surpassing Starbucks to become the largest global chain of made-to-order beverage shops. According to its IPO filing, as of September 30, 2024, Mixue operated nearly 5,000 stores across Southeast Asia, including 2,667 in Indonesia, 1,304 in Vietnam, 337 in Malaysia, 272 in Thailand, 98 in the Philippines, 40 in Cambodia, and 22 in Laos.

一杯奶茶甜世界。事实上,作为郑州市值最大的上市公司,蜜雪冰城早在2018年跨出“出海”步伐,首家海外门店落地越南。去年底,蜜雪冰城全球门店总数超4.6万家,并在年内超越星巴克,居于全球现制饮品门店规模第一,覆盖中国及海外11个国家。据蜜雪冰城招股书披露,截至2024年9月30日,蜜雪冰城在东南亚门店总量接近5000家,其中,印尼2667家、越南1304家、马来西亚337家、泰国272家、菲律宾98家、柬埔寨40家、老挝22家等。

 

The popularity of Henan brands in Southeast Asia has caught the attention of Indonesia's largest English-language daily, The Jakarta Post, which praised Mixue's affordability and even cited a popular local joke: "Watch out for any empty space near your home—it might soon turn into a new Mixue store." 

河南品牌以平价亲民的价格,在东南亚赢得的“民间热度”,引起了印尼最大的英文日报《雅加达邮报》的注意,该报纸报道了东南亚流行的一个段子——“你必须留意你家附近的任何闲置空间,因为它很快会变成一家新的蜜雪冰城门店。”

 

Milk tea has won over fans across Southeast Asia. To address challenges in its international supply chain, Mixue has built localized warehousing systems and distribution networks in four Southeast Asian countries. The company also plans to further expand its logistics infrastructure and establish multifunctional supply chain centers to support its growing overseas operations. 

一杯奶茶“圈粉”东南亚。为了解决“出海”供应链难题,蜜雪冰城在东南亚4个国家建立了本地化仓储体系、配送网络,并计划继续扩大物流设施、建立多功能供应链中心。

 

Originating in China's Central Plains, it's not just milk tea that has brought sweetness to Southeast Asia—even a single red jujube has done the same. 

始自中原大地,除了一杯奶茶,一颗红枣也甜到了东南亚。


Recently, Shi Xun, General Manager of Haoxiangni Health Food Co., Ltd., has been busy preparing to open a store in Cambodia. "Our jujube products aren't just exported to Southeast Asia—we're also a partner of Mixue, and our jujubes are one of the key ingredients in their tea drinks. We're sharing the sweetness," he said. With its focus on the healthy food sector, Haoxiangni sees Southeast Asia as a key market in its international expansion and is working to make the red jujube a modern symbol of wellness and a globally recognized superfood. 

最近,好想你健康食品股份有限公司总经理石训忙着筹划在柬埔寨开店。“不光枣制品出口东南亚,好想你也是蜜雪冰城的‘搭子’,好想你枣是蜜雪冰城茶饮的用材,一起‘甜蜜蜜’。”他说,“好想你‘出海’,东南亚不容错过,聚焦健康食品赛道、不断开拓市场,努力让红枣成为新时代的健康符号、享誉世界的‘超级品类’。”

 

"As the saying goes, ties between nations are rooted in connections between people, and true connection begins with understanding." In recent years, China and Southeast Asian countries have deepened their friendship and cooperation. A cup of milk tea or a single jujube not only brings sweetness to the palate, but also to the heart.

“国之交在于民相亲,民相亲在于心相通。”这些年,中国与东南亚各国赓续友谊、深化合作、交融相亲。一杯奶茶、一颗红枣甜到口,也在甜到心。


This sweetness is mutual. Southeast Asian tropical fruits are entering the Chinese market via Zhengzhou, a major logistics hub, while Chinese consumers are enjoying a different kind of "sweetness" in return. 

其实,这也是一种双向奔赴的甜蜜,东南亚热带水果通过郑州这个超级枢纽打开中国市场,中国消费者也在收获另一份“甜蜜蜜”。

 

Not long ago, Cambodian Princess Norodom Jenna visited Zhengzhou to attend the closing ceremony of the China-Cambodia Year of People-to-People Exchanges. She experienced Henan's rich culture and cuisine firsthand and even performed an original Chinese song titled "Spring in Its Prime" during one of the events.

前不久,柬埔寨公主诺罗敦·珍娜来郑州参加中柬人文交流年闭幕式活动,并沉浸式体验河南美食和文化。在一场演出中,她唱了一首原创中文歌曲《春光正好》。

 

The lyrics echoed the sentiments of people across China and Southeast Asia:

"While spring is in bloom,

I write my wishes on each drifting plume.

Though time may pass and seasons turn,

True hearts remain and always burn.

I believe there's a bond that forever will be—

A fate we call eternity…"
